The City of Rome manages one of the largest urban road networks in Europe: more than 8,000 km of streets. In 2025, a pilot project was launched to integrate RoadAnalyzer into the maintenance processes of selected suburban districts.
Pilot goals
- Test an objective, repeatable method to assess pavement condition
- Support the prioritisation of maintenance interventions on the most critical corridors
- Build a shared baseline to monitor the effect of planned maintenance over time
- Validate the integration between AI-based surveys and the operational workflows of the districts involved
Approach
The pilot focuses on collaboration between municipal technicians and computer vision tools: AI processes the survey videos, while inspectors validate and contextualise the results before turning them into action plans.
Next steps
At the end of the pilot phase, results will be reviewed to assess potential extensions to other districts and to define the frequency of surveys across the road network.
